Jeep’s 2027 Cherokee Trailhawk Arrives With Trail Rated Credentials

The 2027 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk gives New Brunswick shoppers a hybrid SUV with real Trail Rated hardware underneath. If your weekends include gravel roads, camp access trails or a boat launch, this is the Cherokee to look at.

It is also the only Cherokee trim on the Canadian roster right now, so the story is simple: one trim, built for the rough stuff, and fitted with a lot of standard equipment.

What the Trailhawk Brings to the Trail

The Trailhawk earns its Trail Rated badge through a gauntlet of testing that dialled in articulation, ground clearance and traction. Engineers validated it on Sand Hollow slickrock and sand, and in Moab.

The hardware backs that up. Jeep Active Drive II 4x4 with Lock Mode and an electronic locking rear axle are standard. So is a two-speed power transfer unit with a 2.92 low range ratio and a 37.5:1 crawl ratio. That low range lets you climb steep, loose or rocky ground without riding the brakes.

Selec-Terrain offers five modes: Auto, Sport, Snow, Sand/Mud and Rock. The Snow mode is a useful one in a New Brunswick winter, and Sand/Mud suits a soft shoulder or a wet trail.

Ground clearance is 227 mm with a 2.5 cm (1-inch) suspension lift. Approach, breakover and departure angles are 28.8, 21.9 and 31.8 degrees. Water fording depth is 609 mm.

Below the body, steel skid plates protect the front axle, wiring and fuel tank. A separate plate protects the hybrid battery. Red tow hooks sit front and rear. The 17-inch wheels wear 245/65R17 all-terrain tires.

Hybrid Power and Everyday Efficiency

The powertrain is a 1.6 L turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid. The engine makes 177 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque, and the full system delivers 210 hp and 230 lb-ft. An eCVT power-split transmission sends power to the four-wheel-drive system.

The Jeep brand estimate is 7.5 L/100 km combined. It runs on regular unleaded, 87 octane, and the 51.9 L tank supports that economy on longer drives. The 1.08 kWh battery recharges through brake regeneration, so there is no plug to think about.

Towing tops out at 3,500 lbs (1,587 kg) with the optional Trailering Package. That suits a small camper, a utility trailer or a pair of snowmobiles on a light trailer. Payload is 800 lbs (363 kg).

Built to Live With Every Day

The Trailhawk is a five-seat SUV. Cargo space is 835.1 L behind the rear seats and 1,760.7 L with the seats folded. The liftover height is 918 mm, and the foot-activated power liftgate is standard, handy when your hands are full of gear.

Standard comfort covers power heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and memory seating and mirrors. LED headlamps, taillamps and fog lamps are included. A 10.25-inch digital cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen face the driver.

Inside, Mantis Green upholstery with red accent stitching and a Radical Red bezel around the transmission dial set it apart from other Cherokees. The turning circle is 12.2 m, which helps in tight parking lots.

Packages Worth Knowing

Three options add to the base build:

  • Sun and Sound Package: a dual-pane sunroof and a Premium Alpine audio system.
  • Trailering Package: unlocks the 3,500 lbs (1,587 kg) tow rating.
  • Advanced Pro Tech Group: ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, front and rear camera washers and a 360-degree camera.

The camera washers and 360-degree view pair well with muddy trails and snowy back roads, where a lens can get dirty fast.

Your Next Step on the Cherokee Trailhawk

The 2027 Cherokee Trailhawk pairs a 210 hp hybrid system with a locking rear axle, low-range gearing and skid plates, all standard. It gives you trail capability and a 7.5 L/100 km combined estimate in the same SUV, and it is the clear choice for adventurous New Brunswick drivers.
